Sustiva - Generic Equivalent (Efavirenz)

CHEMICAL NAME Efavirenz ( e FAV ir enz)

Sustiva (Efavirenz) is a form of antiviral medicine that is used to prevent HIV infection from multiplying in the body. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV infection in the body. It also helps to boost the immune system of both children and adults.  

The dosage is highly safe for children who are three months old and weigh around 8 pounds. However, the medication is not a cure for the HIV or hepatitis infection. 

Common side effects of using Sustiva (Efavirenz) are Tiredness, Dizziness, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, Nausea, Vomiting or drowsiness. 

However, much serious side effects may include - 

• Extreme Nausea
• Vomiting and stomach pain
• Severe tiredness
• Mood changes
• Hallucinations
• Daze
• Mood swings
• Aggression
• Jaundice

Do not use the Sustiva (Efavirenz) if you are allergic to it or if you have certain health issues like - diabetes, liver and kidney issues. Similarly, it must be taken with precaution by lactating and pregnant women. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or wish to become pregnant. 

Before you start using the medication, talk to your doctor about your underlying medical condition. Also, talk about the existing medications that you are taking especially the Over the counter drugs, marijuana consumption, etc.
