Hepatitis

Hepatitis is Liver inflammation. The disease can be self-limiting, or may grow into fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis, or hepatic cancer. Hepatitis viruses are the world's most prevalent cause of hepatitis but certain pathogens, poisonous agents (e.g., alcohol, other drugs), and inflammatory disorders that also trigger hepatitis. There are 5 major hepatitis viruses, called type A, type B, type C, type D and type E. These 5 categories are of greater concern due to the cost of disease and death they inflict, and the potential for outbreaks and propagation of epidemics. Types B and C in particular contribute to serious illness in hundreds of millions of people and combined they are the most frequent source of cirrhosis of the liver and of cancer.
